The formation of of glucose degradation products (GDPs) is pH dependant and arise during the sterilisation process and storage of peritoneal dialysis fluids.

Utilising a dual chambered bag allows the sterilisation of the glucose to be performed at a very low pH, thus greatly reducing the GDP formation.
